About

Diane Wright Designs creates handcrafted, artisan made jewelry.  I work in two mediums – hand forged and fabricated metalsmithing & off-loom bead weaving.  My work is sold at art shows, galleries and gift shops, & online. I participate in both retail and wholesale shows & wholesale inquiries are welcomed.

Art has always been a constant in my life as I am a third generation artist.  As a jewelry artist, I am passionate about my work and its direction.    I work organically allowing my pieces to unfold and allowing the serendipitous to happen.  My inspiration comes from the world around me including both the beauty of nature in the natural world as well as the texture, line, and composition from the industrialized world.  I am also influenced by the modern art world including the works of Modigliani, Picasso, and Kandinsky.

My metalworking is done my hand forging and fabricating various metals including sterling silver, copper, and brass. Each piece begins with a concept/design and is cut from sheet metal using a jeweler’s saw. Then pieces are filed, sanded, and hand textured with hammers or chasing tools.  I search for interesting cabochons to enhance many of my pieces.  Others rely solely of the elements of texture, line, form, and color through the mixing metals   Due to handmade nature of my work, no two pieces are exactly alike and many are one of a kind especially those incorporating stones.  Each piece is unique work of art and is done entirely by hand.

I create my bead-woven pieces with the use of traditional Native American and South African off-loom bead weaving stitches and then add the colors, textures, and designs from my world.   I use quality Japanese 3mm cube beads, delicas, and round seed beads and weave off- loom with a needle,  and monofilament.  I then embellish the finished product with edging, semi-precious stones, buttons, seed beads, and a sterling silver, vermeil, or plated clasp to create a piece of wearable art .  All pieces are completely done by hand here in America by me.  Off-loom bead weaving is very time consuming sometimes taking weeks to complete a piece and many pieces are one of a kind.
